Many people have been gravitating towards Pickleball because it has less impact on the body. There are some common injuries to be aware of and with some extra attention off the court you can keep playing without missing a step.
The 5 injuries that new and seasoned Pickleball players should be aware of include:
1. Pickleball elbow
2. Wrist or hip fractures
3. Rotator cuff injury
4. MCL strain or sprain
5. Achilles tendon injury
Improving your strength and endurance will help injury prevention and can improve your overall performance on the court. There are a variety of exercises you can do to improve in this area. Workouts could include balance, mobility, flexibility, strength, endurance, and mental focus.
It’s easy to forget things like stretching and strengthening until you get hurt. Rather than waiting for an injury to force you to take care of your body, build in some “pre-hab” to stay healthy.
As is the case with any sport, the more time you can spend on the court, the more you can improve your game. Pickleball is the sport that keeps on giving, as long as you let it. Take some time to stretch, work on your balance, and strengthen weak muscles to stay strong and healthy for the long term.
