Tennis For Life at the RGC

Tennis for Life Junior Pathway

The Royal Glenora Club’s prestigious tennis program is renowned. Here at the RGC, we develop the passion and skills for tennis to remain a crucial part of our junior members’ lives for years to come, regardless if this is simply a fun after school activity or if your child is training to be the next Shapo or Leylah Annie Fernandez.

Our revised pathway consists of three streams: Fundamentals, Next Gen, and Junior Performance, which cater to all of our club members age, interest and skill.  We also recently partnered with UTR (Universal Tennis Rating), which we utilize in all of our junior programs as a way to introduce competition in a fun environment.

  1. Fundamentals Stream: this stream is designed for kids starting tennis for the first time or looking to learn and play tennis as a sport for life.

  2. Next Gen Stream: this stream is designed for kids interested or currently playing competitively in local and provincial tournaments.

  3. High Performance Program: is designed for kids participating in provincial, national and international tournaments, and those who are committed to following an annual training plan.

Requirements:

In order to ensure that the participants are registered in the appropriate program to maximize their development, the following programs have requirements which must be met and approved by a Tennis Professional prior to registering:

  • Mini Tennis Team Tennis: all participants need to be able to serve, consistently rally 10 balls with another participant and keep score.

  • Next Gen U9: all participants need to be able to serve from the service line, consistently rally 10 balls with another participant with an orange ball with proper technique and keep score.

  • Next Gen U10-U11: all participants need to be able to serve from the baseline, consistently rally 10 balls from the baseline with a coach using green dot balls.

  • Next Gen 12+: all participants need to be able to serve from the baseline, consistently rally 15 balls from the baseline with another participant with a regular ball.

  • Junior Performance Program: all participants need to successfully meet all competency requirements and program values.

  • High Performance Individualized Development:  all participants need to express interest in writing to Ryan Schroffel (Tennis Manager/Head Pro), and demonstrate they have the commitment and interest to be a national/international level player.
