Summer Day Camp Leader| Full-Time, Temporary (2 vacancies to be filled)

Rate of Pay: $17.00/hourly
 
Hours of Work: 9:00-5:00pm, Monday to Friday 
 
Duration: June 25, 2018 to August 31, 2018 

Job Summary:
 
Reporting to the Recreation Manager, the Summer Camp Leader is employed for approximately nine weeks (the last week of June until late August). In this position, the Day Camp Leader will plan and implement high-quality week-long themed day camps that provide meaningful and age-appropriate activities for children ages 7 to 12 years old. Day camps will be delivered in a safe, fun, and positive way. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and knowledgeable, using the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD model) in week-long programs.
 
Job Duties include but are not limited to:

  •  Supervises, leads, and instructs children and/or youth in a sports, arts & culture day camp setting.
  • Works in a team environment to ensure every participant has a quality, safe, and fun experience while at the Royal Glenora Club.

  • Creates a positive engaging atmosphere for participants and creates a fun, skill-building, and educational experience during lessons through games and activities that are safe and appropriate for all participants.

  • Actively engages and supports children’s participation during head Professional sport lead programs.

  • Participates in program planning and evaluation of programs.

  • Actively and enthusiastically participates in all aspects of the program including swimming, gym sports/games, arts & crafts and more.

  • Guides and encourages active participation of all children in camp activities.

  • Monitors attendance and safety of all participants.

  • Set-up, take-down, and general maintenance of equipment and facility.

  • Creates weekly plans of camps; plan all activities and outings in advance in order to communicate information to parents and participants.

  • Demonstrates leadership, energy, and enthusiasm to the summer camp environment each day.

  • Enforces program rules pertaining to safety during all lessons.

  • Actively communicates with families and recreation Manger for updates.

  • Administers first aid in case of injury, and completes an incident report form on all injuries.

  • Planning and budgeting for supplies and equipment.

 
Requirements:

  •  Previous day camp experience, coaching, or instructing is considered an asset.
  • Sports, arts & crafts, theatre or dance instructor experience would be an asset.

  • Successful completion of Grade 12, and participation or graduation in a recognized, Education, Recreation or sport related post-secondary program.

  • Valid Standard First Aid, CPR-C and AED Certificate.

  • Excellent customer service and effective communication skills.

  • Experience working with children in a sport camp or related setting as a leader or volunteer an asset

  • Ability to problem-solve and multi-task.

  • Highly effective when working independently and in a team environment.

  • Proficient in computer utilization including use of Microsoft-based software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

  • Superior time management skills, multitasking, and organizational skills.

  • Strong knowledge of a variety of sports and activities for children and youth years.

  • The successful candidates will provide a Police Information Check, with a Vulnerable Sector Check upon hire.
