John’s family joined the Royal Glenora Club when they moved to Alberta in 1990. For many years, John only played badminton while his kids primarily used the fitness room to train for ski racing. John also met his new wife Dianne, who has been a Member of the RGC since 1976, while at the Club. For the last few years, John’s Club activities have included Tennis and Bridge, as well as the occasional swim. All of John’s children also avidly used Club facilities while growing up.
John has always been active in the management of his family’s sports activities. As Treasurer of both Rabbit Hill and Sunridge ski clubs, John redeveloped the ski clubs’ accounting systems to provide better management of information to club executives and members. At the RGC, John has served as Treasurer of three sectional committees (Badminton, Bridge, and Tennis) at various times, of the Arena Redevelopment Committee, and of the Finance Committee.
John’s main contribution on the Arena Redevelopment Subcommittee was the financial evaluation of the various redevelopment alternatives. For the last 6 years, he has actively participated on the Finance and Planning Committee, with the last three years spent as Committee Chair – during which time the Committee significantly improved the financial information for management decision-making and the Club’s financial position to the point of long-term cash flow sustainability. He is committed to the long-term success of the Royal Glenora Club as the premier family sports club in the Edmonton area.
